Gran Enemigo Chacayes 2022 has been awarded 100 points in Jeb Dunnuck’s latest report, Argentina 2026: The Greatness Ramps Up. This marks the second time the publication has awarded a perfect 100-point score to Gran Enemigo Chacayes, making it the only Cabernet Franc from Argentina to achieve 100 points from Jeb Dunnuck. It is also the eighth time an El Enemigo wine has received a perfect 100-point score — a record of consistency that very few estates anywhere in the world can claim.
Writing in the report, Virginie Boone, Senior Editor at JebDunnuck.com, said:
“Some of the best wines out of Argentina are Alejandro Vigil’s own, particularly his Bonarda, Torrontes, and Cabernet Franc…This is a compelling, complex wine that seems to deliver greatness no matter the year, a testament to Vigil’s tremendous attention to detail and love for the site.“
El Enemigo: The Minds Behind the Wine
Behind El Enemigo is one of Argentina’s most compelling partnerships: Catena Zapata chief winemaker Alejandro Vigil and historian Adrianna Catena, youngest daughter of Nicolás Catena Zapata. Together they decided to make wines that honor tradition without being bound by it.
The name, El Enemigo, translated to “the enemy” in English, points to the one battle that shapes us all: the one we fight with ourselves. This spirit guides their approach to winemaking.
The El Enemigo range offers vibrant, high-altitude varietal expressions of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Bonarda, Chardonnay and more. At the pinnacle sits Gran Enemigo, the premium collection of single-vineyard Cabernet Francs from Gualtallary, El Cepillo, Agrelo and Los Chacayes, each a distinct portrait of one of Mendoza’s great sites, and home to the wine that has now earned its second perfect score from Jeb Dunnuck.

What This Can Mean For Our Markets
For the Caribbean and Latin America, Gran Enemigo Chacayes 2022 arrives at an ideal moment.
Fine dining and luxury hospitality. Across the region, resort and hotel wine programmes are under real pressure to differentiate. Everyone has the same Bordeaux classifications and the same Napa cult labels on the list. A 100-point Argentine Cabernet Franc is a genuine conversation starter — a wine a sommelier can sell with a story rather than a score alone, and a wine that gives a by-the-glass or Coravin programme a headline listing nobody down the road has.
The steakhouse and grill segment. This is a natural. Chacayes has the acidity, the tannic frame, and the savoury, herb-inflected character that cuts through grilled and fatty proteins. Against chargrilled beef, lamb with chimichurri, oxtail, slow-braised goat, or jerk-spiced pork, it performs better than a heavier, higher-alcohol red — the freshness resets the palate rather than compounding the richness. In warm-climate service, that matters more than it does anywhere else.
Regional cuisine. The wine’s mineral, saline edge and red-fruit perfume work with the region’s smoke, spice, and char in a way that surprises people. It is worth staging tastings around local menus rather than defaulting to European pairing templates.
Collectors and gifting. A perfect score from a critic of Jeb Dunnuck’s standing carries weight with the region’s growing base of serious collectors, and in duty-free and travel retail, where the 100-point marker does a great deal of work at the point of purchase. The scarcity is real, and the “only Argentine Cabernet Franc to score 100 points from this publication” distinction is a genuinely durable selling point.
A portfolio signal. Stocking a wine of this standing says something about the house it sits in. It raises the perceived quality of everything listed alongside it.
