Óscar Salas holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering with a focus in Viticulture and Enology from Universidad Católica of Chile. He began working at Viña Santa Rita in October 2016 and currently heads Santa Rita’s reserve wines, which include such important brands as Secret Reserve and Medalla Real Reserva, as well as the 120 Reserva Especial (the official sponsor of England’s Arsenal FC football team).

Salas first visited the Cayman Islands where he held a targeted training session for eight members of the Tortuga Wine Company sales and marketing team before visiting important on premise and off premise accounts.

On November 18th, Tortuga Rum Company organised a “Meet the Maker” educational event at Macabuca, Grand Cayman's premier ocean front tiki bar, to give end consumers the opportunity to learn about the art of South American winemaking directly from Salas.

Radio interviews with the two largest morning shows on the island followed. Salas used these opportunities to promote Santa Rita Wines, Macabuca Happy Hour, a wine dinner event that would later be held at Le Vele in George Town, and Holiday wine pairings and Tortuga Rum Store specials on Santa Rita wines.

This pattern of success continued later in the week in the US Virgin Islands. On November 20th, Southern Glazers Wine & Spirits arranged a “Meet the Maker” wine tasting event at Moe’s in Red Hook where Óscar signed Santa Rita 120 bottles for give-away prizes for the first 24 attendees.

The following day Salas promoted Santa Rita events on The Buzz, a morning show that reaches over 3 million people from USVI, BVI and Puerto Rico before visiting on-premise and off-premise accounts. The final day was especially productive with sales training for 13 members of Southern Glazers Wine & Spirits Merchandising and Sales Team, Pangea staff training, and The Box Bar Meet the Winemaker event.

Caribbean Area Manager for Stansfeld Scott, Steven Boderek, accompanied Óscar Salas on the Caribbean tour and said, "It was pleasure having Óscar Salas from Santa Rita Winery join us in Cayman and USVI. Having Oscar share his passion and knowledge of Chilean wines motivates our partners, buyers and end consumers. We definitely want to see Óscar back to visit again in 2020!"
