Ruffino Incentive Winners Travel to Italy

Four winners of Stansfeld’s Scott - Ruffino Incentive Contest travelled to Italy and spent several busy days visiting the various Ruffino properties on an Educational Tour of the Ruffino Estates.

In 1877, cousins Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino, embraced their passion for winemaking and established a small winery in the town of Pontassieve near Florence. At that time the region already had a centuries-old tradition of growing exceptional wine grapes. The reputation of Ruffino wines continued to spread, and Ruffino soon began to export its wines to the United States and other countries. In fact, the first Chianti imported to the U.S. was Ruffino.

At present day, Ruffino has 6 main estates and now produces over 2 million cases of wine per year. Helping guide the four Stansfeld Scott – Ruffino Incentive Contest winners through the various estates were Gabriele Tacconi, Ruffino Winemaker and Beppe d'Andrea, Global Ambassador for Ruffino. Both Gabriele and Beppe were terrific hosts and shared their passions for the wines of Ruffino. Beppe presented each group member with certificates as Honorary Members of the Ruffino family, awarding them for reverberating the traditions and values of Ruffino from the rolling Tuscan hills across oceans.

Today Ruffino is now the largest producer of Chianti and Chianti Classico in Italy, and is one of the best-known Italian brands in the Caribbean. Over the 4 days, the group tasted a wide variety of Ruffino wines, and three highlights were Alauda, Toscana IGT - the Super Tuscan wine which represents the pinnacle of Ruffino's artisan approach to winemaking; Riserva Ducale Oro Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG - the truest expression of a distinct terroir; and Ruffino Sparkling Rosé. Gary Smith, Ruffino distributor in the British Virgin Islands commented, "Ron, Bertrand, Amy, myself, and the rest of the Bellows International team are looking forward to the addition of two new excellent items Ruffino Moscato di Asti and Ruffino Sparkling Rose, two items that showed excellent on my visit to Ruffino."

In addition to the Pontassieve property, the group also visited the following four estates during their time in Tuscany; Montemasso, Santedame Estate, Poggio Casciano and Gretole. Along with the extensive tour of the Ruffino estates, the group also enjoyed some light-hearted cultural activities. From visiting the historical cities of Florence and Sienna to learning how to make the perfect pizza, the Caribbean Ruffino distributors gained a better sense of the true spirit of Tuscany. The group not only toured the Academy Galleries Museum, which holds Michelangelo’s statue of David but they also visited the picturesque village of Greve. Greve is known by many as the heart of Chianti Classico, a small village with a population of 5,000 people, it sits on the on the highway that winds through the hundreds of wineries between Florence and Sienna.

After the four days, the winners of the Stansfeld Scott - Ruffino Winery Incentive visit walked away with better knowledge and respect of the Ruffino brand, and a deeper committment to celebrate and showcase these fantastic Italian wines in their respective markets in the Caribbean.
